Glider Flight Simulator
Lake Keepit Soaring Club has a full size glider flight simulator which can very effectively replicate the characteristics of a flying glider. This is a learning aid for students that is available at very few gliding clubs in Australia or in the world.
The simulator is made from an actual glider fuselage with all the normal flight controls feeding into a computer programme. The programme replicates flight and projects the image onto a 180 degree wrap-around screen. The local terrain is built into the system so that the student gets a very realistic experience of flying a glider at Lake Keepit.
Exercises such as ‘effects of controls’, ‘circuit planning’, ‘stalling’, ‘side slipping’ and much more can be simulated. This makes the learning process less weather dependent. It also allows the instructor the opportunity to address aspects of flight a student is having difficulties with in a low stress, low cost environment.
