Visiting Glider pilots

Visiting Glider Pilots

Lake Keepit Soaring Club is one of the best places in Australia to glide. We have good soaring weather all year round, we are a professionally run club with a fleet of well-maintained gliders – and because we operate 365 days a year, you can come when it suits you best. So – if you are planning a visit, the information set out below will help to make your stay memorable.

Flying

Visiting pilots must have proof of their GFA membership and be fully flying members of another club. If you are bringing your own glider, the club has ample trailer parking, tie down points and a watering area. Please ask before you tie your glider down so as not to damage water lines.

Before you can fly club gliders you will need to have a check flight and area familiarisation with one of our instructors.

If you are planning on flying Cross Country, the club also offers a XC introduction service which can include out-landing practice in a motor glider, glider familiarisation, help in setting up flight computers and training in our flight simulator. You can contact the club for more details.

It is possible to book club gliders, for one or several days, so that you can be assured of having an aircraft to fly. Have a look at our fleet here. Once again, contact the club for more details on booking gliders.

Getting here

The club is situated on the North West Slopes of NSW midway between Tamworth and Gunnedah. For more information go to our Getting There page.

The Soaring Club is located in the Reflections Holiday Park and you will need to have a park entry number to enter the gate, especially if you arrive late and the park entrance is unattended. A visitor number can be supplied by the club. This changes each month so make sure you have the correct one.

Staying here

The club has a range of accommodation options, so make sure you have pre-booked the type of accommodation you want. We have single/double or twin rooms with en-suite or shared bathrooms, as well as camping sites. All rooms can be supplied with linen and towels, but you may prefer to bring your own.

You need food to fly and the closest supermarkets are in the towns of Manilla and Gunnedah, both about 30 minutes drive away. Most people will bring supplies for their stay. The club has a communal kitchen with plenty of refrigeration and freezer space.
